Elementary Program

The Bay Academy adopts a holistic view of child development where the child is seen as a whole person with a desire to learn and to be active participant in the learning process.

From Grade 1 through Grade 5, the literacy curriculum we offer will be driven by the English Language Arts standards from Common Core State Standards. To meet these standards, we will implement the Columbia Teachers College Reading and Writing workshop model from kindergarten to grade 5. The mission of the Teachers College Reading and Writing workshop model is to help student become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers.

Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) in “Discovery”is also introduced in the Elementary Program. STEM is a practice and project-based model that intentionally integrates literacy and humanities skills with science, technology, engineering and math. STEM aims to develop knowledge, reasoning and investigative skills that students can use in all areas of their lives.

Integrated with Discovery and Language Arts, Social Studies will adopt the Social Studies standards from AERO. Our social studies program aims to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that empowers our students as citizens. It also emphasizes a global perspective by examining issues through many viewpoints.
